Exploring The Witchery Mod

The witchery mod adds more magical, mystical stuff to Minecraft. Potions, broomsticks, poppets, cauldrons and other sorts of hubble bubble toil and trouble.

1. Clay Jars (uses 3 or 4 Clay)

Clay jars are used in a witches oven to collect the useful by-products that may be formed when you burn things.

Use clay to make a soft clay jars:

Fire the soft clay jars in a furnace to make clay jars.

So now you need to make a Witches Oven!

2. Witches Oven (uses 5 Iron Ingots, 2 Iron Bars)

Iron bars are made from 6 iron ingots (2 rows of 3), as in vanilla Minecraft.

Right-click on the oven and you will see how it works:

Put your item to be burned in the top left space and the fuel below it in the bottom left space. The result of burning appears in the top right space. Put empty clay jars in the bottom middle space to catch the by-products which appear in the bottom right space.

List of by-products from a witches oven:

Raw food  -> Cooked food + Foul fume
Logs -> Charcoal + Foul fume
Oak sapling -> Wood ash + Exhale of the Horned One
Birch sapling -> Wood ash + Breath of the Goddess
Spruce sapling -> Wood ash + Hint of Rebirth
Rowan sapling -> Wood ash + Whiff of Magic
Hawthorn sapling -> Wood ash + Odour of Purity
Alder sapling -> Wood ash + Reek of Misfortune
Jungle sapling -> Wood ash + Foul fume

"But where do I find the new saplings; rowan, hawthorn and alder?" you ask! You mutate existing plants using Mutandis, obtained using Mandrake Root:

3. Mandrake Root (from seeds dropped by tall grass)

Grow mandrake plants from seeds. Mandrake seeds are sometimes dropped by tall grass, so go and hack a load of grass and eventually you should get some mandrake seeds. Grow them until they flower and when you harvest them you should get some more seeds and sometimes a mandrake root.

4. Plants are useful things: make a witch's garden!

Make a witch's garden. Seeds can be gathered by bashing tall grass.

Try growing Mandrake, Belladonna, Snowbell, Wolfsbane, Wormwood, Garlic, Water Artichoke.

Water Artichoke can only be grown in still water.

5. Anointing Paste (Mandrake, Belladonna, Snowbell and Water Artichoke Seeds)

Anointing paste is made in a crafting table from Mandrake Seeds, Belladonna Seeds, Snowbell Seeds and Water Artichoke Seeds. Just make a 2X2 square with these seeds in any order.

6. Witches Cauldron

Start by making a cauldron:

Anoint the witches cauldron with the anointing paste. As if by magic (which it is) you have a witches cauldron!

7. Mutandis (from Egg, Hint of Rebirth, Mandrake Root)

To make Mutandis you also need Exhale of the Horned One (from burning an oak sapling). Add a mandrake root (see above) and an egg. Eggs come from chickens... which come from eggs... which come from... etc etc etc.

To use the witches cauldron, you will have to put in 3 buckets of water, set a fire underneath (nether rack is best) and put in your ingredients.  Out will come the mutandis which you can use to turn (vanilla Minecraft) plants into other plants.

Mutandis is the only way to get Alder, Rowen and Hawthorne saplings.
